For my very first post, I'd like to show you the progress I've made on my first room box.

Now, for some clarification, I make all my miniatures on the small kitchen table in the very tiny shipment container (!) where my boyfriend and I live. Yes, really, I live in a shipment container. It's actually rather homey, and as far as student housing goes in Amsterdam, we've been quite fortunate. 

However, that does mean that for everything I make, I must keep in mind that I have limited space and resources available. You might think I chose a strategic hobby with miniatures. :)

That's why for my very first roombox I wanted to keep it simple and lightweight. Simple I couldn't quite handle; of course I had to set way too many goals for myself.

Lightweight I did manage. I made the walls and ceiling from the same piece of foamboard, and left two walls to the imagination. 

I made the floor from a piece of leftover cardboard covered with the actual planks.

Sadly I dont have a lot of photos from this first stage, but here are some:

Now of course I should never have glued them on this piece of ribbed cardboard. If I wouldn't have been so impatient I could have bought a sturdier piece of cardboard, or better yet a sheet of thin wood. The problem I now face is that even after a month of treating it with several stacks of heavy books, and even bending it carefully with my hands, it still curves upward.

And this is when I put it all together. Please disregard the clutter in the background, tiny house you see ;) You can see the curve of the floor; it's not as bad as this anymore, thankfully. For the big windows I envisioned those large spiled industrial windows. Those are still in the making.
